Library Information for User with Disabilities

Wheelchair Accessible Stations and Adaptive Equipment

 
Wheelchair accessible stations in the UT Libraries are available to the public, EID logon required.
 
The assistive equipment in PCL 2.200 and PCL 4.104 is available to students, faculty and staff. Members of the public can also use the equipment but will need a UTEID. Users who need to use PCL 4.104 will need to request a key at the PCL Desk. Online instructions are available for some of the equipment.

Paging Library Materials

 
Users who need help accessing library materials should ask for assistance from library staff. Library staff are happy to page materials for users and will make every effort to immediately retrieve the material. However, depending upon the level of staffing at that library and the volume of the request, library staff may request that the user return for the materials later. Users can also use Pick it Up in the catalog. Users can also Get-a-Scan of library materials. 

Workspace for Students Who are Visually Impaired or who require distraction free space

 
A study for students with visual impairments or other disabilities is located on level 4 in PCL 4.104. Students can request a key from the circulation desk. Please refer questions to the Circulation Desk supervisor.

Reader Services For Visually Impaired Students

 
The UT Libraries does not provide “reader services" for our users. If a user asks for assistance in reading text aloud, you can direct them to our Assistive Technology equipment in PCL. If they need assistance with the equipment or explanations about services or policies, please refer them to P.G. Moreno. 

Talking Book Program

 
The Texas Talking Book Program provides Library services for blind and physically handicapped Texans, and is a service of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission The services is available to Texans of all ages who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical, or reading disabilities-whether permanent or temporary. Books and magazines are available in different formats, mainly on cassette, but also on record and in braille and large print. 1-800-252-9605 Toll-free in Texas, or in Austin, 512-463-5458.

PCL No longer has a TTY device availble for public use.
